Abstract
706,800. Helicopter rotors. BELL AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1951, No. 23481/51. Class 4 A method of manufacturing a set of matched rotor blades of laminated wood structure is characterized in that the blades are initially manufactured to substantially identical shapes, measurements and weight characteristics, laminae respectively of similar wood being assembled in the same relative position in the respective blades, said blades thus maintaining said characteristics under varying humidity and temperature conditions. Each blade is composed of a plurality of laminations having a lengthwise grain which are so selected that, in a two bladed rotor, corresponding laminations 25, 35 are taken from adjoining positions in the same log, Fig. 2, with the result that the corresponding lamination at each chordwise station on the blades possess identical characteristics so that the blades remain in a state of balance under changing conditions of humidity. The construction may be applied to hollow blades.
