Abstract
706,489. Turret machines; electric heating. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Jan. 25, 1951, No. 1984/51. Classes 39 (2) and 39 (3). In a machine performing operations at sequentially arranged stations, the getterflashing of small electron discharge tubes V is performed at B by an induction coil 34 of special construction lowered into position when a tube V stops at B. Portions of the turns of the coil 34 occupy planes parallel with getter G, the remainder of each turn being bent so that the coil may be close enough to flash the getter without excessive heating of the electrodes within the tube.. A cam, Fig. 3 (not shown) then raises the coil 34 to enable the valve V to advance to the next station. At the preceding station A the electrodes are heat treated to drive off occluded and surface gases by a fixed induction coil 16. Water circulates through both coils 16, 34, adjacent turns of which are insulated by glass-fibre cords 20, and adjacent layers by flexible sheets. The getter-flashing may be applied to other devices, such as relays or thermal switches.
