Abstract

A composition for addition to the washing water for vehicles and other articles comprises a synthetic organic detergent and/or wetting agent and a non-ionic additive in an amount up to 10 per cent. of the total weight of detergent and/or wetting agent, said additive being selected from the group:-2-ethyl-hexanol; 2-ethyl-hexane-1.3-diol; n-heptane-2-ol; n-heptane-3-ol; and diacetone alcohol. The detergents specified are "Lissapol N" (Registered Trade Mark-an alkyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether), "Empilan AQ 100" (Registered Trade Mark, a polyethylene glycol ester of technical lauric acid), "Sterox C.D." (Registered Trade Mark,-a polyoxyethylene ether), "Levelan" (a 20 per cent. solution of a commercial cetyl/oleyl alcohol condensed with ethylene oxide), "Nekanil A Extra" and "Nekanil W Extra." A wetting agent such as "Calsolene H-S" (Registered Trade Mark-the sodium sulphonate of an oil) may be present in addition to the detergent.
