Abstract

706,187. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. WEBB, H. W. B. Nov. 21, 1950 [Dec. 5, 1949], No. 28465/50. Class 135. [Also in Group XI] The fuel and combustion air supplies to a liquid fuel burner (see Group XI) are controlled simultaneously by a regulating means M comprising a piston 26 movable within a cylinder 27 by the pressure of combustion air applied thereto, the movement being controlled by regulating the outflow of air through a cylinder outlet 31, e.g. by means responsive to the pressure of steam produced in a steam generator heated by the burner. When the outlet 31 is not closed or restricted the piston 27 is moved away from a sealing ring 32 to allow combustion air to flow into a chamber 21 and thence to the burner. As the piston 27 moves the piston rod 28 tilts a pivoted lever 41 carrying a roller 42 which depresses a cap 59 on the actuating rod of a valve V controlling the oil supply to the burner to increase the supply rate by an amount determined by the adjustment of the position of the roller 42 by a screw and nut 44. When the outlet 31 is closed or restricted a spring 46 maintains the piston 26 against the ring 32, an air bleed hole 33 being provided in the piston 26. In addition a groove 36 around the piston 26 is connected by passages 37 to the side under pressure to provide a sealing cushion of air around the piston. The valve V is provided with a needle regulated byepass to allow sufficient flow for a pilot flame when the valve is closed.
