Abstract
706,001. Travelling wave tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. Feb. 10, 1948 [April 19, 1947], No. 3847/48. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XL(c)] A travelling wave oscillator has a feedback channel external to the tube and including a cavity resonator c provided with means for periodically varying its frequency for frequency modulation. As shown cam d secured to rotating shaft a periodically varies the capacity between projections from the cavity walls, but any other device for periodically varying the inductance or capacity may be used, such as a piston; the drive is from an electric motor. The feedback circuit also comprises guide sections g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>2</SP> coupled to the cavity by mutual inductance or capacity or by holes in the cavity walls, and to the input and output circuits e, s of the tube by dipoles, loops or holes. The guides may be replaced by lines. The device may be used in radar receivers. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, refers to a frequency varying member such as a stump or frustum ' and suggests that the frequency variation need not be periodical. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
