Abstract
704,279. Waterproof courses. WILLIAMS, Sir E. O. Oct. 15, 1952 [Oct. 16, 1951], No. 24142/51. Class 20 (4). [Also in Group XXI] A waterproof course for concrete structures is made by forming a ply structure of three layers B, C, D, or more, of thin concrete slabs, intervening thinner layers G of waterproof plastic material, e.g. bituminous material, being sandwiched between the slabs which are staggered to avoid coincidence of their junctions. The slabs are preferably reinforced. Fig. 3 shows a construction for a sub-way in which a layer of porous concrete A, finished with a smooth upper layer E of cement mortar and a thin layer of bituminous plastic material F, is laid before the ply structure, a final layer K of bituminous plastic being laid on top of the upper layer D. More concrete, or grouted gravel fill, can then be laid on top of the ply structure, a further ply structure being added if necessary. In applying the invention to waterproofing dams &c., the ply structure preferably forms the outer surface only of the main mass of concrete. The slabs may be rebated to increase the resistance to penetration of moisture at the joints between the slabs.
