Abstract
703,824. Colour television. CLARK, D'A. M. (Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation). May 15, 1952, No. 12303/52. Class 40 (3) An arrangement for colour kinematography comprises a colour-television camera having a plurality of outputs carrying video signals corresponding to respective colour-component images of the scene to be photographed, a plurality of television reproducers each connected to a respective output of the television camera, a plurality of motion-picture cameras each recording the image reproduced on a respective one of the television reproducers, and a network for supplying synchronizing signals to the television camera, the reproducers and the motionpicture cameras. Light from the scene 9 is reflected by half-silvered mirrors through blue filter 30, green filter 32 and red filter 34 to form respectively coloured component images upon the targets 12, 13, 14 of the television camera 11. The targets are scanned by electron beams from respective electron guns under the control of scanning waveforms generated in a scanning control unit 21, energized from the power supply 22. The video-signal outputs from the camera 11 are applied to individual linear amplifiers 36, 37, 38 having respective manual gain controls 39, 40, 41 and thence to amplifiers 42, 43, 44 providing an adjustable amount of signal-amplitude expansion or compression under the control of respective manual control means 45, 46, 47. The amplified signals are applied to respective-cathode ray tubes 50, 49, 48 controlled by the scanning signal output from control unit 21 thus reproducing in black and white the respective colour component images of the scene 9. These are photographed by the intermittentmovement motion-picture cameras 55, 56, 57 which are also synchronized from the unit 21 so that the film pull-down occurs during the television frame blanking intervals. The three black-and-white component motion-picture films thus produced are then combined by any suitable colour process to produce a single coloured film. The video-signal outputs from the amplifiers 42, 43, 44 are also applied to cathode-ray tubes 61, 62, 63, also synchronized from unit 21, the images produced thereby being projected through respectively coloured filters 70, 71, 72 on to a screen 60 for viewing by the person controlling the operation of the amplifiers 36, 37, 38, 42, 43 and 44.
