Abstract

702,699. Heat-exchangers. METALLGES. AKT.-GES. Sept. 19, 1951 [Nov. 21, 1950], No. 22017/51. Class 64(3) Indirect tubular heat-exchangers, particularly for cooling gases, have longitudinallvfinned tubes made by extruding a ductile metal such as lead, aluminium, copper or metal powder the fins contacting or bonding with those of adjacent tubes when the tubes are banked or bundled together. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the cooling medium passes through the tubes 18 and the gases to be cooled traverse the spaces between the fins 19. Fig. 1 shows a heat-exchanger, a cross-section of which is shown in Fig. 2. in which even and odd numbered rows of cooling tubes 18 are connected to separate collecting lines 20, 21 displaced from one another to facilitate cleaning.. The heatexchanger can be used for cooling in catalytic processes, for example, in the productin of phosgene from chlorine and carbon monoxide in the presence of carbon disposed in the channels formed by the fins.
