Abstract
701,663. Shearing. CARLSON TOOL & MACHINE CO. Oct. 25, 1951 [Nov. 30, 1950], No. 24960/51. Class 83 (4). [Also in Groups VII and XXIII] In wire feeding means for a brush-making or other machine in which pieces of wire are severed from a continuous length and are fed by grippers into position below a driver, the grippers 41, 44 are mounted on pivots 42, 47 respectively, on a member 31 which is pivoted at 30 on a carrier 16 reciprocated horizontally between the severing and driving positions. The grippers are connected together by a link 50 whereby when the lower gripper 44 is struck by the driver the upper gripper is raised against a spring 54 to release the wire. The carrier 16 is mounted on two pivoted arms 13, 14 controlled by a cam 17 and a spring 20. The wire 45 is fed to the grippers by feed rolls 71 (not shown), 72 connected by gears 74, 75 and rotated step by step by a spring-pressed ratchet 89 operated from an eccentric 80 through an arm 82, rod 85 and arm 88. The eccentric also actuates through an arm 83, crank lever 100, link 108, and rod 107, a cutter 112 which co-operates with the end of a passage 76 in a block 77 through which the wire is fed from the feed rolls. An adjustable stop 115 is provided for the end of the wire. The pieces of wire may be in the form of slugs or be bent to form staples.
