Abstract

701,516. Gas turbine plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Sept. 12, 1951 [Sept. 14, 1950], No. 22673/50. Class 110 (3) A gas turbine plant for utilizing solid waterbearing fuel such as bagasse, sewage sludge, coal slurry, sulphite pump mill waste, town refuse or peat comprises a fuel drier to which compressed air, heated by compression, and the fuel are supplied and in which at least a part of said water content is evaporated by the heated air, a combustion chamber receiving the evaporated water and solid fuel from the drier and a turbine fed with combustion products and evaporated water from the combustion chamber. The compressor 1 driven by the turbine 3 supplies air to a fuel drier 5 which receives through an inlet 6 the water-bearing fuel. The heated air evaporates some of the water content of the fuel and the resulting steam and solid content of the fuel is passed to a separator 7. The solid fuel is led direct to the combustion chamber 4 with a small amount of air and steam while the greater part of the air and steam is led through a heat exchanger 8 where it is heated by the turbine exhaust gases before being passed to the combustion chambr 4. The air supply to the heat exchanger should preferably be saturated. The incoming fuel supply to the drier may be partially dried by the exhaust gases of the heat exchanger as described in Specification 666,692. Specification 701,517 also is referred to. Alternatively or in addition the compressed air may be preheated by the exhaust gas heat exchanger.
