701,439. Carbon papers. KORESKA, R., KORESKA, W., and KORESKA, A., [trading as KORESKA, W., [Firm of]]. April 19, 1950 [Oct. 27, 1949], No. 9668/50. Class 100 (4). [Also in Group VIII] A method of making a non-curling carbon paper consists of treating a paper sheet with a solution containing polystyrene to form a thin layer on one surface of the sheet and thereafter applying carbon ink to the untreated surface. Alternatively existing carbon papers having a relatively poor non-curling coating, e.g. a light wax covering may be coated with the solution. The polystyrene is applied as a solution comprising trichlorethylene together with, if desired, a colouring material and evaporated by hot rollers and an air blast leaving a thin layer of polystyrene comprising 2-3 grams/square metre. Polystyrene is more hydrophobic than known synthetic resins used for the purpose, is in practice non-absorbent to the oil from the carbon layer and has a temperature coefficient nearly equal to the carbon laver. A light coloured base paper may be used, or if the usual dark paper is employed a coloured pigment can be applied as a layer above the polystyrene layer or direct on the paper sheet.
