Abstract

701,321. Smallarms. TITO, L. Dec. 29, 1950 [Dec. 31, 1949], No. 31666/50. Class 119. A shot gun with a magazine 48 in the stock has a casing in which the barrel 1 and breech piece 2 recoil on firing and in which a manually retractable breech-block also slides, the casing also housing a pair of carriers for respectively receiving a cartridge from the magazine and delivering it to the barrel, one carrier 28 being rocked by the breech-block and the other, 23, by the barrel. As shown in Fig. 8 the breech-block comprises a main body 6, a locking member 8, and a lock 7. The lock 7 has a finger piece 18 by which it can be retracted against the action of a spring 15, Fig. 1, such action serving not only to retract the breech-block as a whole but also serving to rock the member 8, which is freely mounted as shown between walls 71, 72 of the part 6. to withdraw its tooth 56 from locking engagement with a recess 13, Fig. 3, in the breech piece 2. The retraction of the lock 7 causes a tooth 17, Fig. 10, thereon to retract the firing pin 20 which passes through suitable slots in the parts of the breechblock. The breech-block is held in the retracted position by a tooth 32 on a spring-urged lever 31 which is pivoted at 30 to the carrier 28. Cartridges may be introduced into the magazine by turning the gun upside down and inserting them in the space between the carriers, the last one being retained in front of the head of the carrier 23 and its bottom supported by a movable lever 47, Fig. 1. Action. By moving forward a catch 38 holding the carrier 28, the latter rises to lift the first cartridge into the path of the breech-block, such action serving to lower the lever 31 to release the breechblock which then moves forward under the action of spring 15 to introduce the cartridge into the breech. During this movement, the breech-block lowers the spoon 23, the striker 20 becomes hooked on a tooth 46 controlled by the trigger, and the tooth 56 of the part 8 of the breech-block enters the recess 13 of the breech piece 2. On firing, the breech-block and barrel recoil together, and the breech piece 2 strikes a lever 26. Fig. 2, which tilts the carrier 23 to liberate the next round from the magazine so that it passes on to the carrier 28. On recoil, the tooth 32 re-engages the lock 7 and the barrel and breech subsequently return, under the action of spring 5, taking with them, for a part of the way, the parts 6, 8 of the breech-block. During the recoil the breech piece 2 acts on a system of levers, Fig. 14 (not shown), to hold the carriers depressed, these being liberated during the return stroke. In a modification, Figs. 18 and 19 (not shown) a single lever replaces the levers 23, 26, the additional space thus provided enabling the use of a firing hammer.
