Classes 20 (1), 20 (2), 20 (4) and 87 (1) In a prefabricated building structure in which prefabricated building panels are assembled according to a square grid structure having a predetermined module, the wall panels and roof supporting beams are positioned along the lines of the grid while the beam supporting columns abut the adjacent face of the wall panels and are offset from the intersection of the grid lines to one side of the wall panels. Fig. 1 shows a corner of a building planned upon a grid formed of intersecting lines 1, 2 spaced apart a distance "M" equal to a predetermined module. A column 3 supports a roof beam, not shown, and columns 4, 5 are secured in tongue and groove relation to a corner piece 6 and a spacer panel 7 respectively, the column 3 being similarly secured as at 10 to a further spacer panel 11. The width "W" of the spacer panels 7, 11, is made equal to a fraction of the module "M," and the length of each arm of the corner piece 6 is made equal to ¢ W so that the distance between opposing edge surfaces of the corner piece and the spacer panels, not shown, is equal to M-W. The length of W is chosen so that M-W is a multiple of the width of the normal wall panels. Fig. 2 shows a method of securing a column 18 to a spacer panel, the panel comprising a pair of asbestos cement spacing sheets 13, 14 mounted in a timber peripheral frame 15 and enclosing a core 16 of wood wool and cement and divided vertically by a timber stretcher 17, and the column 18 being hollow and comprising opposing sides 19, 20 which extend outwardly from a third side 21 to receive timber fillets 22 which define a groove 23. The groove 23 is adapted to receive a timber batten 24 which is secured to the stretcher 17 by screws 25, the column being secured to the batten 24 by screws 26. Cover moulds 27 are secured by nails 28 over the heads of the screws 26. In an alternative construction, Fig. 3, the column 29, formed of cold rolled sheet steel, has welded to it angle strips 30, 31 which are screwed at 34 to a channel member 32. The channel member 32 is secured to the stretcher member 17 of the panel by screws 33, metal cover strips 35 being secured to the column by screws 36.
