700,695. Screw-and-nut gearing. LEONARD, J. LEVEAU, M., and SCURIATTI, .L. Feb. 21, 1951, No. 4206/51. Class 80 (3). A machine-tool spindle B is driven from the shaft A of a motor M, either direct or through change gears G, the feed screw C is driven from shaft A through gears 6, 7, while the feed nut N is normally driven from shaft A through a friction coupling 12 and gears 9, 8, so as to give slow feed, but is adapted to be held stationary by an electromagnetically-operated brake 10 cooperating with the gear 9 so as to give quick feed.
