Class 136(1) [Also in Group XXXIV] A fluid pressure brake for cycles, motor-cycles or other vehicles comprises a compressor unit formed by a reciprocable piston 10 in a cylinder 1 which has a flexible cap 13 secured by a screw 12 to the piston 10 and by its peripheral edge to the cylinder head to enclose an annular chamber 4a, a hand lever 15 to depress the piston, a flexible tube 8 connecting the cylinder with a power applying unit mounted on a forked member 30 secured to a cross bar b on the wheel forks c, and formed of a central core 18 provided with ducts 19, 19a, the duct 19a being connected with the flexible tube 8 by a nipple 20, and ducts 19 opening at a central part of expansible membranes 23 secured to the core 18 by threaded caps 24, slides 27 reciprocable in the caps and having stems 28 projecting through apertures 29 in the caps, and brake shoe carrying levers 33 pivoted to the member 30 and carrying platens 34 at their upper ends which are held apart against the tension of a spring 37 by the stems 28. The upper end of the compressor cylinder 1 is tapered outwardly at its inner surface to form a re-filling mouth 5. The fluid, such as any oil, is fed into the cylinder 1 through a duct 9 which opens into the chamber 4a and is closed by a plug 9a. The core 18 has a refilling duct 21 closed by a plug 22.
