Abstract

700,399. Trimming moulded tyre covers. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Nov. 7, 1952 [Dec. 17, 1951], No. 29435/51. Class 87 (2) A machine for trimming moulding flash from a moulded tyre cover comprises three multibladed cylindrical trimming knives 14 two of which, those engaging the side walls of the cover, are adjustably secured to spring-biased rods 50 pivoted respectively to a crank 51 and to one arm of a bell-crank 55 which are secured to rotatably-mounted shafts 52 connected by means of cranks 57 and a connecting rod 58, and the third of which, that contacting the tread portion, is adjustably secured to a weighted rod 54 pivoted to the other arm of the bell-crank 55, one of the shafts 52 being operated by means of a weighted hand lever 59 or by mechanism driven in timed relationship with the rotation of the tyre cover. The latter is supported on a pair of driven double frusto-conical rollers 1, and a roller 11 rotatably mounted on a pair of weighted pivotally mounted arms 12 bears on the upper portion of the tyre cover. Each knife comprises a rotatable annular base portion 20, Fig. 3, provided with tapering double-edged blades 24 which are set over and chamfered at their ends.
