Abstract
699,392. Making screw conveyers; welding. COMPTON, C. E. Nov. 7, 1951 [May 26, 1951], No. 26055/51. Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXX] The screw is formed from a series of discs 2, Fig. 4, each of which has a central circular aperture 3 from which radiate slits 4, 5. In each disc only the slit 4 extends to the periphery and the edges of this slit are used for connecting adjacent discs by a weld 7 which extends from the periphery half-way to the aperture 3. The discs are mounted on the shaft 9, Fig. 2, and one end disc is tack welded to it at 8. The other end disc is engaged by members 10, Fig. 3, connected to pulling devices 11, e.g. block and tackle apparatus. When force is applied, the discs take up the position shown in Fig. 3 in which the slits have opened to form approximately triangular-shaped openings 12. These openings may be left open, or they may be closed by welding plates 14, Fig. 5, in them.
