698,729. Oil seals. LILJEQVIST, A. May 1, 1952, No. 11002/52. Class 122(v) A labyrinth type shaft oil seal comprises a ring element having two axially spaced radial flanges 5 6 connected by an intermediate part, the outer edge of the flange 5 further from the open end of a bearing housing 3 abutting the inside of the housing and the outer edge of the other flange 6 being spaced from the housing, and a cap having a hub 9 fixedly mounted on a shaft 1, or a part 13 secured to the shaft, with a radially extending portion 10 adjacent the said other flange 6 and having a rim 11 extending between but spaced from the housing 3 and the flange 6, the rim 11 extending close to the flange 5 that abuts the housing. The intermediate part connecting the flanges 5, 6 is constituted by two overlapping portions 7, 8. In a modification the inner edge of the flange 5 is connected by an intermediate part to the outer edge of the flange 6 and a cylindrical flange closely surrounding the shaft and co-extensive with the intermediate part extends from the inner edge of the flange 6.
