Abstract
698,468. Glass manufacture. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., and WYNNE, H. C. Jan. 17, 1952 [June 13, 1951], No. 14067/51. Class 56. Cooling means for a sizing roller for use in making a glass ribbon from molten glass comprises two D-shaped tubes 10, 11 assembled flat to flat and held stationary within the bore of the roller. One end of the tubes is closed and the other connected to water supply and discharge pipes. One tube has a central aperture 17; the other has two apertures 18, 19 one adjacent each end of that tube and diametrically opposite that in the first tube. The tubes are carried by a disc 15 rotarily adjustably secured to a plate 22 (whereby the angular position of the tubes may be adjusted) and the plate 22 is adjustable backwards or forwards along a stationary rod 23 whereby one or other aperture 18, 19 may' be more or less advanced into or withdrawn from the hollow trunnions so as to vary the amount of cooling water passed through the apertures.
