Abstract
698,465. Electric incandescent lamps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., March 6, 1952 [May 25, 1951], No. 12320/51. Class 39(ii) In order to facilitate the accurate positioning of a lamp filament or filaments 4 relative to a reflector, more particularly in a prefocus type lamp such as a dualfilament sealedbeam lamp, the filament-supporting wires 3 are embedded within a solid glass member 2 which is located within, and sealed to, a metal collar 1 adapted to be sealed to a reflector 13. The reflector may consist of glass with an internal metal coating, as in Fig. 5, or may be of metal to which a glass front lens is welded. Alternatively, a glass bulb 8, Fig. 4, may be sealed to the shoulder portion 7 of a metal collar 1 provided with a top flange 6 for attachment to a reflector. The filament-supporting wires 3 and connecting pins 5, may be welded end to end to a short intermediate length of wire that is embedded completely within the glass member 2 and consists of a metal having an expansion characteristic which matches that of the glass 2. Alternatively, the leading-in wires may consist of two wires welded end to end, either of which has an expansion characteristic matching that of the glass 2.
