Abstract

698,334. Sized paper &c. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 11, 1951. [July 12, 1950] No. 17443/50. Class 96. Paper, or paper-board &c. is made from e.g. bleached sulphite pulp with a water-soluble aluminium salt e.g. aluminium sulphate, a water-soluble resin soap, e.g. rosin size, a "sequestering agent", and de-acetylated gum karaya. The sequestering agent e.g. sodium hexametaphosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, or sodium tripolyphosphate prevents precipitation of aluminium soaps and prevents the aluminium salt from inactivating the gum karaya: it may amount to 40 per cent. of the hydrated aluminium sulphate. The gum may be added in water at the stuff-chest.
