Abstract
698,224. Heating air tubular heat-exchange elements. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Dec. 7, 1951 [Dec. 21, 1950], No. 28757/51. Class 64 (iii) [Also in Group XXVII] Air which is used for heating the thermal element of a thermally actuated choke valve (see also Group XXVII) is heated in a heater which comprises a central tube surrounded by a helically convoluted shell, the tube fitting closely against the interior of the shell to provide a tortuous heating passage. The figure shows the heater 14 mounted in an exhaust manifold 10. Air drawn from the usual air cleaner enters a central tube 11 at the top as indicated by the arrow. It flows down the tube and then upwardly between the tube and a helically convoluted shell 13 to an outlet 17 leading to the thermal element of the choke. The tube and shell are made of material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Inconel" or of stainless steel or other metal resistant to the effects of heat lead compounds and oxidation.
