698,197. Driving-gearing. CAPELLINO, G. L. Jan. 24, 1951 [Jan. 24, 1950]. No. 1877/51. Class 7 (ii). [Also in Group XXIV]. In a four-stroke engine, the crankshaft 1 and a shaft 2 on which a camshaft sleeve 10 is rotatably mounted form the primary and secondary shafts of a change-speed gear having constantmesh gear pairs constituted by gears 3, 4, 5 rigid with the shaft 1 and gears 6, 7, 8 selectively clutchable to the shaft 2 by ball clutches operated by a sliding rod 9, the gear 8 being fast with the sleeve 10. The shaft 2 drives an output sprocket 12 through a friction clutch 11. The gear pairs can be supplemented by two sprockets connected by a chain to give a reverse drive, or totally replaced by sets of such chain gearings.
