Classes 39(iii) and 75(iii) An electric infra-red ray emitter comprising a resistance wire 2 wound in grooves in a hollow cylindrical former 1 has at one end two plugs 3 to connect it to sockets 17 in a reflector 25 and carries at the other end a holder 7 for a visual ray lamp 6 in a position wholly external axially of the former. The unit is secured in position by a nut 23 engaging a stem 16' on the unit, said stem passing through an aperture in the reflector. The lamp 6 has a conical metal shield 4 and is mounted on a socket 7 mounted on a plate 7a and a stem 7b on a metal cover plate 12 supported by a cap member 10 secured by bolts 11 in the end of the former 1. The shield 4 leaves the tip of the lamp 6 exposed and is spaced by sleeves 13 from the cover plate 12, which is connected by a wire 16 to the stem for earthing purposes. Leads 8, 9 from the lamp pass to the pins 3 and leads 21 are secured to the sockets 17 held in a block 20 secured to the reflector by screws 27. Air may flow in a space between the rear of the reflector and a cover plate. The device may be used as a night-light or in a chicken brooder.
