Abstract
697,415. Applying lever lids to cans etc. PETERS & CO., Ltd., G. D. June 30, 1952 [July 6, 1951], No. 16082/51. Class 125(ii) In applying lever lids 1 to cans 5 prior to a subsequent pushing home of the lids by a plunger or rollers, the cans are fed along on a conveyer 4 to a shoot 3 whereupon they engage a lower hinged part 8 of the shoot which raises a lid supported on rails 10 on a leaf spring 12 so that it clears the leading edge of the can and then lowers it so that its shoulder is engaged by the trailing edge of the can to permit the lid being drawn off the rails 10. To ensure that the can does not slip on the conveyer 4, the latter may have abutments thereon and the friction may be increased by forming a pressure part 30 on the leaf spring 12. The lowest position of the part 8 is determined by an adjusting screw 14 engaging an abutment 17. The cans are located by lateral adjustable guides 18. Upward movement of the part 8 actuates linkage 23, 22 to operate a gate 21 allowing one lid to be fed.
