Abstract

697,193. Aerials. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. April 26, 1951 [May 3, 1950; March 30, 1951], No. 9788/51. Class 40 (vii). In a travelling-wave aerial, the free ends are terminated by impedances, the reactance component of which increases in the direction of the ends. As shown in Fig. 3, the termination, of which the Figure shows a portion, may comprise a series of capacitively coupled sleeves mounted upon a common core 6. Fig. 6 shows a helically wound inductive termination, the material thereof being also resistive. The resistive material may be applied directly in the shape shown to the base 21 of insulating material or the base may be completely covered and material subsequently removed to produce the desired shape. Fig. 7 shows a termination comprising a series of capacitively coupled conducting elements mounted on an insulating base 31. Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), show modifications wherein the thickness or the superficial area of the elements varies along the length of the termination. The aerials incorporating these terminations may consist wholly of pieces having a varying impedance per unit length, or the end portions only may be constructed as shown. Figs. 4 and 5 show loop aerials having varying reactive elements 10 and 14 and one and two feed-points 11 and 13 respectively.
