Abstract
697,172. Ammunition projectiles. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO.. Ltd. June 12, 1951 [June 17, 1950], No. 15192/50. Class 9(i) [Also in Group XXII] Armour-piercing core for a projectile is produced by powder metallurgical methods and consists of iron-tungsten carbide and/or iron-molybdenum carbide manufactured synthetically or extracted as the n-phase from a high speed steel. A binder metal may be incorporated such as iron, cobalt or nickel. Additional tungsten may be added. The core may be subjected to a pressure of 10 to 50 tons/sq. in. and a temperature of 1100‹ to 1500‹C for about 1 hour. Specification 668,847, [Group XXII], is referred to.
