Abstract
696,804. Control of A.C. motors. GLEASON WORKS. Feb. 22, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1951], No. 4717/52. Class 38 (iii) [Also in Group XXIII] An A.C. motor 55 fed from a 3-phase supply drives the indexing mechanism of a machine for sharpening gear cutters and may be connected to run continuously until the sharpening operation has been completed or, alternatively, to run only when a switch 148 is depressed. Switches 131 and 137 operated by relays 129 and 136 selectively energised by a switch 153 connect the motor for forward and reverse operation respectively. For continuous operation a switch 154 is opened and the switch 148 closed to energize relays 129 and 145 closing switches 135 and 144 respectively. The latter switch closes a circuit to shunt the contacts of switch 148 so that the motor continues to run after the switch 148 has been released and until two microswitches 125 and 126 have been automatically actuated by the indexing mechanism of the machine at the end of the sharpening operation. The opening of these latter switches energizes a relay 141 to complete a circuit for a high resistance indicating lamp 155. A stop switch 151 enables the circuit to the motor to be broken before the end of the operation if necessary. When the switch 154 is open, the motor may be "jogged" in either the forward or reverse direction according to the position of switch 153 by actuating the switch 148, the relay-operated switches 135 and 144 remaining open. Specification 694,878, [Group XXII], is referred to.
