Abstract
696,524. Chemical treatment of oil bearstrata. STANOLIND OIL & GAS CO. June 6. 1951 [July 27, 1950], No. 13409/51. Class 85. A method of recovering oil from a subterranean oil reservoir comprises the steps of injecting a liquid oil solvent or a liquid miscible with the oil in said reservoir and with a scavenging fluid which is injected into the reservoir after the first injected liquid to displace said liquid, which in turn displaces the oil in the reservoir towards an extraction well. The liquid or liquid oil solvent is of sufficient volume that at all times in said reservoir there is a narrow zone 11 of said liquid, substantially pure, between said oil and said scavenging fluid, the zone 11 being separated therefrom by impure transition zones 10, 12. The volume of liquid or liquid oil solvent is between 3 and 10 per cent of the pore volume of the reservoir to be traversed. A suitable liquid oil solvent is liquefied petroleum gas to which water may be added, whilst the scavenging fluid may be a predominantly hydrocarbon gas or water. ,
