In a combined blocking and locking device in which blocking stops prevent the movement of a member from one to the other of two longitudinal extending members and locking means lock the two longitudinal members in alignment to permit the movement of the member from one so the other of the longitudinal members the locking means comprise a part fixed to one longitudinal member which upon relative movement of the longitudinal members engages slots in a disc pivoted on the other longitudinal member and the arrangement is such that the disc prevents movement of the blocking stops from the blocking position when the longitudinal members are out of alignment but when the longitudinal members are in alignment the blocking stops can be moved out of the blocking position one of the stops engaging a slot in the disc to prevent movement thereof and thereby to lock the longitudinal members in alignment. A girder 2 transversely movable relative to a fixed girder 1 carries a part 8 which engages a slot 7 in a disc 5 rotatably mounted on the girder 1 so that when the girders 1 and 2 are in alignment a rod 12 can be operated to rotate a transmission joint 9 and move stops 3 upwards, out of a position blocking the path of a trolley travelling along the lower flanges of the girders 1 and 2, and a stop 4 into engagement with another slot 7 in the disc 5 to lock the girders 1, 2 in the aligned position. The disc 5 is returned to a position blocking the vertical movement of stop 4 by a spring 10 bearing against the side of a square 11. The stops 3 may be replaced by abutments or stop-pieces rigid with the two members of the transmission joint 9.
