Abstract
695,562. Tyre-retreading moulds. HAWKINSON CO., P. E. June 16, 1950 [Jan. 7, 1950], No. 15150/50. Class 87 (ii) A mould 1 for applying rib treads to pneumatic tyres, provided with radially inwardly projecting parallel tread design-forming ribs 4 (Fig. 7) or 4' (Fig. 12) and means between these ribs adapted to hold circumferential friction elements 11 of wire bent to provide parallel rows of connected laterally spaced radially projecting friction members 10 (Figs. 2, 4) to be embedded in the rib treads to be formed, is characterized in that the means to hold the friction elements in position consist of circumferentially extending channels with means forming an inwardly projecting rib having a depth less than that of the friction elements and arranged between the ribs and constructed to centre the friction elements with respect to the channels. The channels may open inwards as at 9, Fig. 7, or outwards as at 16, Fig. 12, forming inwardly projecting ribs in the latter case. In the former arrangement the inwardly projecting centring ribs are wire rings 13 which may have a tongue and groove form of joint to ease their insertion and removal. The claws 10, when embedded in the rib treads, face radially outwards so that their ends 12 are flush with the road-engaging surface of the tread and form an anti-skid feature.
