Abstract
695,509. Motor-cycles; frames. POTTS, F. C. (Maico Motorrad-und- Fahrradfabrik). July 4, 1951, No. 15882/51. Classes 79 (iii), 136 (i) and 136 (iii) A body structure for a single track self-propelled vehicle comprises a central member composed of sheet metal forming a channel, the open side of which faces the road and the front and rear ends of which are closed by rigidly attached transverse walls and front and rear body portions attached to these walls and covering the front and rear wheels respectively. As shown, the channel member 1, provided with flanges 4 serving as foot rests, is closed by walls 2, 3. flanges 4 serving as foot rests, is closed by walls 2, 3. The front of the vehicle is enclosed by a cover 8 attached to the wall 2 and serving as a support for a head lamp 10 and spare wheel 9, the side walls of the cover preferably extending rearwardly beyond the wall 2 so as to protect the legs of the driver. Fuel tanks 11, 12, are also supported by the cover. The power unit 13 is mounted on pipes 14, 15 extending within the member 1 between the walls 2, 3. The driving wheel 17 is housed in a cover 16. The engine is cooled by air entering a duct 18 leading from an opening in the front of the cover 8 to an opening in the wall 2. This air leaves the channel 1 through an adjustable opening in the wall 3. By closing this opening in winter time and providing a baffle 19 in the channel 1, the heated air is deflected by the wall 3 so as to flow in a forward direction in the lower part of the channel 1 where it is further heated when flowing adjacent the engine exhaust pipes, and then leaves the channel through an opening 20 adjacent the legs of the driver. Ducts may also be provided for directing heated air to the hands of the driver. An extension 5 of the wall 2 serves as an instrument panel and as a support for the bearing 6 of the front wheel fork. The bottom of the channel 1 may be closed by a detachable cover.
