Abstract

<PICT:0695474/III/1> <PICT:0695474/III/2> A sterilizing cabinet 10 for sterilizing food- and drink-holding vessels comprises a compartment adapted to receive the articles to be sterilized and provided with a statioary false bottom 15, beneath which is disposed at least one electrical heating element 21, one or more ultra violet lamps 22 being provided in the upper part of the compartment, means being provided for directing the rays from the lamp or lamps downwardly upon the articles to be sterilized, closure means to the compartment being provided so as to retain the heat therein. As shown the cabinet is of metal and has a drop down front closure member 11 hinged along its lower edge 12 to the cabinet front and provided with a wire reinforced window 13. The false bottom 15 is inclined so that water collecting there will drain off through opening 19. In a modification (not shown), the tray is dished and has a central draining orifice. The ultra violet lamp 22 is supported between resiliently mounted holders 23, which also serve to connect the lamp contacts with the necessary electric leads thereto, in a supporting frame 27 positioned near the roof of the cabinet. A reflector 28, secured to the roof of the cabinet at 29, is mounted over the lamp. Ventilation holes 30 are provided on the cabinet walls for the escape of steam. Switches 31 and 32 for the electric heaters and ultra violet lamp, and a transformer for the lamp are mounted in a box 34 secured to the top of the cabinet. They may, however, be provided within the cabinet. The cabinet may have insulated walls. Wire mesh removable trays (not shown) are provided for the articles to be sterilized. Exposure to a temperature of not less than 300 DEG C for 1/2 to 1 minute is considered sufficient for sterilization.
