Abstract
695,200. Aircraft refuelling and towing apparatus. FLIGHT REFUELLING, Ltd. Jan. 2, 1951. [Jan. 3, 1950] No. 120/50. Addition to 676,430. Class 4. In a flight refuelling and/or towing system of the kind described in the parent Specification, the probe or/and its mounting has an articular structure enabling its extremity tc be displaced in a directior transverse the axis of its terminal portion without altering the attitude of such axis relative to the aircraft. In the refuelling apparatus shown, the fuel supply conduit 26 is mounted withir articulated members 2, 4 carried on a root member 1 in the fuselage, the end of the portion 4 carrying a nozzle 6 which can be engaged with a supply pipe trailed from the tanker aircraft. The portion 4 is maintained parallel to the root portion 1 by a linkage 8, 9, 10 and the inclination of the portion 2 can be adjusted by an electric motor 15 through worm gearing 11, 12. In addition the probe may be rotated about the root portion 1 by a motor 25 through worm gearing 23, 24. Instead of incorporating the supply conduit in the members 1, 2, 4 the nozzle 6 may be connected to a flexible hose, the articulated members being purely structural. When used for towing the member 4 is brought into alignment with the root member 1, after engagement of the coupling elements, in order to relieve the worm gearing of load. Reference is also made in the Provisional Specification to Specification 695,201.
