Class 52(ii) In bedsteads of the kind in which the bed, or two single beds side-by-side, is or are adapted, after use, to be turned up into a cupboard, recess in the wall, or the like each bed is provided at its inner end, with a counterweight the preponderant portion of which is positioned at the inside of a vertical plane through the bearings, about which the bed turns, when the bed is in upright position thereby securing the bed in this position. As shown the inner end of the bed has secured to it a holder 8 having open ended slots 10, 10<SP>1</SP> co-operating with bearing pins 9, 9' carried by a foot 2 or 2" secured to the floor 20 of the cupboard or recess, the holder being also provided with a counterweight 4. The slots 10, 10<SP>1</SP> are turned upwardly at one end so that, in the horizontal position of the bed, the bed is lowered and secured in position, while, by slightly raising the remote end of the bed and pulling it outwardly the bed may be demounted from the cupboard owing to the open ends 11 of the slots 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. A damper 18, 19 may be provided for contacting with the counterweight on lowering the bed so that the lowering movement of the bed may be arrested without jarring. The counterweight may be regulated by being built up of a number of minor weights 4<SP>1</SP>, 4". The bottom of the bed is provided with feet which may take the form of handles 21 of the cupboard and in the case of twin beds the foot 2' secured to the floor of the cupboard &c. is of the form shown in Fig. 4 and in addition a roller blind 22 may be provided in the cupboard &c. so as to hide the side of the bed in the cupboard when only one of the twin beds is in use.
