Abstract

693,817. Magnetic structures and compositions. STEATITE RESEARCH CORPORATION. Feb. 15, 1952 [Sept. 20. 1951], No. 4132/52. Class 38 (ii). An inductance core comprises two cupshaped parts 10, 20, one or both of which are of ferromagnetic ferrite, e.g. zinc-nickel ferrite, the parts having central projections 11, 21 which touch to form a rod through the centre of a coil 30, and outer walls 12, 22 which come together to enclose the coil, the co-operating surface of one (Fig. 1) or both (Fig. 2, not shown) of these walls bearing ceramic glaze 14 or a glass washer to provide an air-gap of fixed and stable dimensions. The core parts may be made by compressing mixed oxides to shape and sintering, one or more layers of glaze then being applied and fired, the co-operating surfaces being finally ground smooth. Alternatively, a glass washer may be united to the core parts by application when hot.
