693,702. Cutting slate and like sheet material. FREEMAN, H. Aug. 21, 1951 [Aug. 21, 1950], No. 20662/50. Class 124. In a machine for cutting slate, asbestos cement sheeting, and similar sheet materials of the type in which the sheet is placed over a slot in a platform and cut by a knife swung downwardly through the slot about a pivot, the pivot of the knife is movable along the length of the slot and is arranged to be positively retained during the cut in one of a number of predetermined positions spaced apart along the slot at distances less than the effective length of the knife blade. As shown, the slot 11 is defined by four angle-section members 12A, 12B, 13A, 13B attached in pairs by strips 12C, 13C to form grooves 14 in which the pivot pins 15 of the blade 10 run. The grooves 14 have spaced pairs of recesses 20 in their upper sides in which the pins 15 may be engaged in turn. A modification for cutting larger sheets also is described and illustrated in the Specification. Specification 599,004 is referred to.
