Abstract
693,406. Transformers and inductances. GENERAL RADIO CO. July 25, 1951, No. 17674/51. Class 38 (ii). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrical apparatus-such as a variable ratio electric transformer-having a conductor 1 arranged in a plurality of turns and a brush 4 slidable across the turns in engagement with a contact track 7 formed thereon, is characterized by the fact that the conductor is provided at longitudinally-spaced intervals with contact patches 5 formed by coating the conductor with a metal selected from the group comprising gold, platinum, palladium, rhodium, silver and nickel, the patches together forming the contact track engaged by the brush. The use of noble metals for the contact track obviates tarnishing thereof in corrosive atmospheres and thus providing a constant contact resistance, which resistance may be predetermined by the selection of the noble metal and the brush material. Graphs showing contact resistance against periods of use for the metals enumerated above are included in the Specification. Specification 439,567 is referred to.
