Abstract

693,186. Brake wear adjusting mechanism. DEWRURST & PARTNER, Ltd., and DEWHURST, M. Nov. 28, 1951 [Dec. 5, 1950], No. 29751/50. Class 103 (i). Automatic adjustment means for maintaining constant the release clearance of the brake shoes in a spring applied and electromagnetically (as shown) or otherwise released brake, comprise a distance tube 20 fitted on the operating rod 19 coupling the armature 18a of the electromagnet and the shoe 10, a collar 20a on the tube 20 being arranged to engage a rod 26 to shift a roller element 23 when wear of the shoe hinge exceeds a certain value. The roller member 23 is engaged by and prevents further release movement of the shoes by locking a wedge element 30 moved by the operating rod 19. The initial shoe clearance may be set by adjustment of the nuts 21, 22. The invention forms a development of the adjustment means shown in Specification 433,504.
