Classes 44 and 65 (ii) Mounting and latching means for a door comprises a butt hinge and a latch element made as a separate part, said element having a base portion adapted to be rigidly held to one leaf of the hinge, and a resilient detent portion adapted to come into latching engagement, as the hinge leaves are closed together, with a co-operating detent that forms part of, or is held to, the other hinge leaf. In one embodiment (Fig. 2), the detents 20, 23 are constituted by the free edges of spring strips, the bases 16 and 17 of which are respectively clamped between a hinge leaf 12 and the door 14, and the other hinge leaf 11 and the door post 15, the bases being provided with teeth 18 which penetrate the woodwork. Alternatively, the bases may be provided with small studs if the door and post are of material other than wood, or they may be provided with holes for countersunk screws. In a modification a spring detent associated with one leaf is adapted to engage with an edge of the other leaf which constitutes the co-operating detent. In a further modification (Fig. 5) a flat base 30 is inserted between the leaf 11 and post 15, and a detent formed by spring members 31, 32 of unequal length projects through one of the countersunk screw holes in the leaf. The base may be formed in two parts, one integral with each spring member. A countersunk screw hole 33 in the leaf 12 constitutes the cooperating detent. The detent carried by the flat base may, alternatively, consist of a single spring member. In a yet further modification (Fig. 9) a spring detent 41, carried by a base 36 associated with the leaf 12, is adapted to press against the barrel portion 39 of the leaf 11 and to engage with a cut-away portion 37 of said barrel.
