Abstract
691,783. Condensing zinc vapour. NATIONAL SMELTING CO., Ltd., WOODS, S. E., and PERRY, B. G. May 15, 1950 [June 13, 1949], No. 15694/49. Class 82(i) In the method of condensing zinc vapour by means of a molten metal the pool of molten metal is cooled by means of a circulating readily-fusible alloy. The Figure shows a condenser 1 for zinc vapour having a pool 6 of molten metal in which a single loop 7, 8 of pipe carries:the readily-fusible cooling alloy circulated by thermo-syphon consisting of a limb 10 surrounded by insulating material 11, and a return limb 13 surrounded by a jacket 15 in which cooling water can be circulated from an inlet pipe 17 and removed through any one of valves 18, 20, 21, 22 and 23 or pipe 24 depending on the degree of cooling desired. The rate of circulation of the readily-fusible alloy may be controlled by a valve. A number of such cooling units may be used in a condenser Suitable readily-fusible alloys are Pb 38 per cent and Sn 62 per cent; Bi 50 per cent, Pb 27 per cent, Sn 13 per cent and Cd 10 per cent; Sn 50 per cent, Pb 32 per cent and Cd 18 per cent. Specification 691,844. [Group XIII], is referred to.
