Abstract
690,621. Compressed-air engines; vacuum engines. TRICO-FOLBERTH, Ltd. July 30, 1951 [May 1, 1950], No. 10701/50. Class 122(iii) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a pneumatic motor having a piston 2 reciprocated in a cylinder 1 by applying a pressuredifferential alternately to opposite ends of the cylinder the piston rod 4 is formed with a pump chamber 6 slidable on a fixed pump piston 7 that extends into the cylinder 1 from one end and the pump piston 7 has an axial bore 9 which communicates through suitable inlet and outlet valves with pump intake and delivery ports. A pin 14 attached to the piston rod moves, through a known valve mechanism, a slide valve 16 to connect a source of operating pressure or suction alternately with one or the other of two ports leading to opposite ends of the cylinder, the other port being opened to atmosphere. The bore 9 of the pump piston 7 communicates with a chamber 11 having an inlet and a discharge port each controlled by a non-return valve. Means such as a valve is preferably provided whereby the pump may be rendered inoperative and a disconnectible drive may be provided on the end 12 of the piston rod so that the, motor can be used to drive other apparatus such as a windscreen wiper.
