Abstract
687,708. Sharpening band saws. ALBER, R. June 15, 1951 [June 15, 1950], No. 14216/51. Class 60. In a band saw sharpening machine having at least two grinding discs, the discs are arranged parallel to each other and in such a manner that the disc nearest to that part of the saw running away from the discs grinds only the backs of the teeth, whilst the other disc or discs grinds or grind the faces of the teeth and also the backs of the teeth. The distance between the faces 7, 8 of the discs 1, 2 directed toward that part of the band saw 4 runing away from the discs is less than the pitch b of the teeth; the disc 2 is thinner than the disc 1; the distance between the faces 9, 10 of the discs 1, 2 opposite to the faces 7, 8 is equal to the pitch b of the teeth. The disc 1 thus grinds the face 11 of the tooth 14 leaving a wire edge 12 whilst the disc 2 is not in contact with the face of the preceding tooth 13. The disc 1 then grinds the back 16 of the following tooth 15, and the disc 2 grinds the back 16 of the tooth 14 and turns over the wire edge 12 left by the grinding of the face 11 of the tooth 14. An arrangement with three discs is also described.
