Abstract

687,562. Paper pulp beaters. AUGIER, C. T., (trading as TONIOLO & FIGLIO, E.), and ARNOLD, R. July 8, 1947. No. 17975/47. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 16, 1947] Class 96. [Also in Group II] A beater for making paper pulp from fibrous materials, comprises a conical rotor 4 carrying flat blades 2A arranged in planes passing through the axis of rotation and having cutting edges which sweep out a conical surface facing a corresponding hypothetical surface connecting the cutting edges of fixed blades 2 arranged radially and annularly about an inlet 3A. The blades 2 may be carried by a removable ring 3. The rotor and blades 2 may be situated at the vortex of a spiral casing 1 having a tangential outlet. The rotor may carry a ring of blades 5 which prevent material from reaching the space between the back of the rotor and the casing, as by moving in a channel therein. The shaft 7 of the rotor may be adjusted axially to vary the clearance between the blades 2A and 2 and an axial thrust may be applied to the shaft by a loaded lever system acting against a spring 8. Material may be fed to the beater through a conduit 19 around which a cooling-jacket may be provided.
