Abstract

687,164. Broom handle fixings. RICH, A. W. May 25, 1951 [June 16, 1950], No. 15026/50. Class 61 (i). The handle 11 of a broom is reversibly attached to the head 1 by a device comprising a slotted plate 2 adapted to be secured to the head, a stud member 6 the head of which engages beneath the plate with the stud projecting through a slot and a handle socket 10 adapted to be screwed on to the shank of the stud to grip the plate. The plate 2 which is fixed to the broom head by screws is transversely channelled at 4, the slot being formed on the top of the channel. The square head 5b of the stud fits between the side walls of the channel and is slidable along the channel from side to side. The end of the handle is secured by screws to the split tabular socket 10 which has a base 9 provided with a tapped hole to receive the threaded shank of the stud 6. The handle and attached socket 10 are screwed to the projecting shank of the stud 6, a washer 7 being interposed.
