Abstract
687,010. Line-end tackle. PERRY, A. June 4, 1951 [June 5, 1950], No. 13983/50. Class 48. [Also in Group XXV] To ensure the loss only of a fishing hook when the latter is snagged, the hook is attached to a spinner or like line-end tackle by means of a connecting link that will snap open to release the hook at a predetermined strain thereon. As shown the connecting link comprises two semicircular jaws 2 carried at the free ends of outwardlysprung legs 6 which are secured together at their opposite ends and screwed into a coiled tension spring 5 anchored by a screw 7 and a bush 8 within a tube 4. The jaws 2 are each provided with a semi-circular collar 3 so that when the legs 6 are pressed together the jaws 2 form a closed eye to receive the attaching eye of a hook, and the collar parts 3 are retracted by the spring 5 to slide snugly into the tube 4. With the spring 5 at rest, the closed eye 2 projects from the tube end. The opposite end of the tube 4 is formed with a necked portion to receive and retain a rotatable spindle 10 of a spinner (not shown). In operation, at a predetermined strain on the fishing hook, the spring 5 is extended until the collar parts 3 are clear of the tube 4 to allow the legs 6 to spring apart, thereby opening the jaws 2 and releasing the hook.
