Abstract
686,152. Fastenings ; bolting. UNITED-CARR FASTENER CORPORATION. June 15, 1951 [July 7, 1950], No. 14295/51. Classes 44, 89 (i) and 89 (ii) [Also in Group XXVIII] A fastening device for securing a tube 12, Fig. 4, to a support (as shown another tube 16) comprises a base 18 adapted to rest against the support and a tube-entering portion 22 having assembled therewith a toothed disc 34 adapted frictionally to engage the inside walls of the tube 12 and securing means e.g. a nut 36 to receive a fastening stud; e.g. a screw 14 for holding the fastening device against the support. In the form shown the base 18 is of saddle shape, the end of the tube 12 being located on a seating 28 . The nut 36 has a flange 40 bearing on the upper side of the disc 34 and a threaded barrel 38 turned outwardly at 42 to keep the parts together. The screw is passed through aligned openings 46, 48 in tube 16 to engage in the nut 36. The tube 12 is forced over the disc 34 and retained by the engagement of the teeth with the internal wall thereof. Tabs 44 on the flange 40 are bent down to engage between teeth of the disc 34 to prevent rotation of the nut 36 as the screw 14 is tightened. Instead of turning the end of the barrel 38 outwardly as at 42, a ratchet nut may be forced over the outside of the barrel to serve the same purpose.
