Abstract
685,698. Feeding sheets. BELL GIDDINS & CO., Ltd., and BELL, W. Nov. 15, 1950 [Oct. 21, 1949], No. 27082/49. Class 100 (i). Metal sheets 1 fed over a table 3 from an automatic sheet feeder to a printing or other machine are slowed down by the action of freelyrotatable rollers 6 which press the leading edge of each sheet against the table, the rollers being carried by arms 5 which are rocked intermittently. As shown, the arms 5 are freely pivoted on a shaft 4 which is rocked by means of an arm 10, fixed to the shaft, a rod 11 pivoted to the arm and forked at 11b to engage over driven shaft 12a, and a roller 11a on the rod 11 engaging a cam 12 secured to the shaft 12a. Cranked arms 7 fixed on the shaft 4 oscillate the arms 5 through adjustable resilient connections each comprising a screw-threaded link 8 pivoted to the arm 5 and passing through a hole in the arm 7 to receive lock nuts 8b, 8c, a spring 9 being interposed between the two arms 5, 7. The shaft 4, or the arms 5 or 7, may carry rearwardly - extending sheet - deflectors 14. The rollers 6 are made of rubber or are covered by rubber. Preliminary oscillating lays 15 may be provided. The sheets 1 are fed by further means to registration lays of a printing or other machine.
