A walking aid comprises a trestle-like structure formed by two members, hinged together, each having two feet, stay means connected to both members intermediate their ends to limit their opening and closing and handles attached to one member and extending over the other between which a person may stand to obtain support therefrom. One member comprises front legs 2, top bar 3 and cross strut 4 and carries brackets 5 to which are pivoted legs 7 connected by cross bar 8 which form the other member. The feet of legs 2, 7, which have rubber footings 9, are joined by two spring- retracted link systems comprising links 11, 12 joined by pivot 14. Each link 11 has arcuate slots in which a pin member 16 on the adjacent link 12 moves thus limiting the relative movement of the link system and hence the front and rear members, and a spring 17 tending to draw the legs together is arranged between the overlapping ends of links 11, 12. Handles 19 are adjustably mounted in brackets 18 on the top bar 3 of the front member. In use, the handles 19 are lifted causing the apparatus to tilt about the front feet raising the rear feet off the ground so that they are retracted ; and then pressure is put on to the handles 19 causing the rear feet to take the weight and pivoting the front feet away from the rear feet. The link system is detachable from one or both legs so that by loosening and rotating the handles and folding the legs against one another the walking aid may be folded flat.
