685,111. Stuffing boxes. TOHILL, J. June 28, 1948, No. 17266/48. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXXIV] A sealing assembly on a bearing end comprises a packing ring 23 disposed within a recess 22 in the end of a bearing 10, and retained therein by an annular plate 24, and a further resilient packing ring 21 compressed in a recess 18 formed by an overhanging part 19 of a collar 12 secured to the end of the bearing 10. The plate 24 is secured to the bearing by means of screws 26, and the collar 12 has a threaded portion 16 which screws on to the end of the bearing. Holes 29 are provided in the collar 12 for screwing the latter on to the bearing. For a through bearing, a member 12 and its associated packing rings may be provided at each end of the bearing.
